Orthopaedic Surgeons
For anyone with who likes intellectual challenges and working with their hands, an orthopaedic career could be for them as it offers both of these. Orthopaedic Surgeonsbegin their training with a 4 year college degree followed by 4 years of medical school. At the end of medical school the degree of medical doctor is conferred and the orthopaedic surgeon is ready for his or her placement education. This consists of 1 year in a general surgery residency followed by 4 years of an orthopaedic surgery placement. Following residency training many Orthopaedic Surgeonspursue fellowship training to enhance their skill in one particular area which they wish to specialise in. These specific areas include hand, shoulder and elbow, total joint reconstruction, paediatric orthopaedics, foot and ankle, sports medicine, spine, and trauma.
